The discipline of spending deliberately and well below your means — not self-denial but a tool for buying freedom. A backbone of FIRE, it lowers your cost of living and widens your optionality by shrinking the income you need to survive. The blog treats it less as penny-pinching than as the old virtue of frugalitas praised by Seneca and the Stoicism tradition — a defence against consumerism and the hedonic treadmill, and a way of noticing how little you actually need to live well. Done right it is closer to a minimalism of values than a spreadsheet of sacrifices.
