The question of what makes a life feel good — and the gap between fleeting pleasure and durable well-being. The blog draws on the psychology of Daniel Gilbert and Martin Seligman, and on the older eudaimonic tradition of Aristotle, to argue that happiness is less about acquiring more than about wanting well. Two recurring obstacles shape the discussion: the hedonic treadmill, which resets satisfaction back to baseline after every gain, and affective forecasting errors, our chronic tendency to mispredict what will actually make us feel good. The upshot is that durable contentment flows less from raw hedonism than from meaning-making, good relationships, and engagement in things worth doing.
