The practice of forming accurate beliefs and making good decisions — of systematically getting closer to the truth and to what you actually want. As a modern movement it owes much to Eliezer Yudkowsky, whose writing on cognitive biases and Bayesian reasoning seeded a community whose most readable voice is Scott Alexander. Its empirical foundation is the work of Daniel Kahneman on the predictable ways the mind errs, which feeds directly into behavioral economics. In practice rationality shows up as disciplined decision-making and a habit of treating beliefs as predictions to be tested rather than badges to be defended.
