American writer and AI researcher (b. 1979), a founder of the modern rationality movement and of the LessWrong community. His collected Sequences (later Rationality: From AI to Zombies) and the popular fiction Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality taught Bayesian reasoning, decision-making, and the art of updating on evidence to a generation of readers. He is among the earliest and most prominent voices warning about existential risk from AI, and his ideas closely connect him to thinkers like Scott Alexander and Robin Hanson.
