American economist at George Mason University and one of the most original contrarian thinkers of his generation. He pioneered prediction markets and the idea of futarchy, and co-wrote The Elephant in the Brain (with Kevin Simler), which argues that much of human behavior is driven by hidden motives and status-signalling. His blog Overcoming Bias was a founding hub of the rationality community, and his work spans predictions, ai, and the strange far future, closely connected to fellow GMU economist Tyler Cowen.
