The deliberate practice of taking in books and long-form writing — not as a chore but as one of the highest-leverage ways to borrow other minds. Done well it compounds: wide reading builds the latticework of mental models that Charlie Munger credited for much of his judgement, and it is the raw input for serious knowledge management and original writing. It spans non-fiction and fiction alike: novels, stories, and poetry are treated here not as escapism but as a serious technology for understanding minds and morals — where philosophy states a principle, fiction lets you live inside it — with recurring touchstones in Cormac McCarthy, David Foster Wallace, and the essayist-novelist Alain de Botton. The richest payoff comes from quake books that rearrange your worldview, which is why good book recommendations are so prized. Reading is also a form of serendipity engineering — you cannot predict in advance which page will change your life.
