The web of relationships, belonging, and mutual obligation that ties a person to others — and one of the most reliable ingredients of a good life that money cannot directly buy. On this blog community is treated as a serious counterweight to the individualist drift of FIRE and footloose optionality: freedom is hollow without people to share it with, and strong ties are among the strongest predictors of happiness and durable meaning-making. It connects to the matthew effect in social life — networks compound — and to a critique of consumerism and status signalling as thin substitutes for genuine belonging. The recurring caution is that the goods worth optimising for are often relational, not financial.
