American social psychologist (born 1963) known for moral foundations theory, which argues that political and ethical disagreement stems from differing intuitive foundations rather than pure reasoning. In The Happiness Hypothesis he mined ancient wisdom for modern lessons on happiness, and in The Righteous Mind he depicted moral reasoning as the rider rationalising the elephant of intuition — a vivid model of rationality and its limits. More recently The Coddling of the American Mind and The Anxious Generation examined fragility, social media, and parenting. His work overlaps with the blog's interest in psychology and the roots of meaning.
